Skin, hair and nails consists mostly of collagen and ages for two reasons. One cause is external inluences such as nutritional deficiencies and unbalanced nutrition, pollution, excessive sunbathing, smoking etc.

Collagen and elastin keep the skin tight and elastic. The skin has a congenital ability to produce enough collagen and elastin,
but as we grow older, skin loses this ability. At the same time, the biodegradation of connective tissue increases in the skin. The result is thinner, drier, looser and, last but not least, wrinkled skin.

The degradation of collagen starts after approximately 25 years of age. The skin then contains approx. 75% collagen. After the age of 60, most people will have lost about 35% of the skin's collagen.

When the skin's collagen and elastin are first damaged, the skin cells can become dehydrated and no longer maintain their own moisture. There may be wrinkles and discolouration, freckles and rashes, poor hair growth, hair loss, as well as oily, dry and lifeless hair. The nails can lose their normal fresh color and no longer be smooth and shiny.
